THE PYRAMID TOWER OF PLATEAU

At the entrance to the business district of Plateau stands a building of remarkable architecture. Yet it is its state of disrepair that strikes visitors at first glance. The Pyramid is a building that was constructed between 1968 and 1973 by the State of Côte d'Ivoire. Its occupants quickly came to realize it was a complete failure, due to the lack of space and maintenance costs that were deemed far too high. Recent years have been marked by a standoff between the State and a private individual who claimed to have purchased the building. The Ivorian Government ultimately bought it back, and the cost of rehabilitating this architectural gem is estimated at over thirty (30) billion francs.
