The city of Yamoussoukro, political capital of Côte d'Ivoire since 1983, is also known as the city of lakes. Among its many lakes, one stands out from the rest. This is the so-called "Caiman Lake," located opposite the Presidential Residence, the former home of the late President Félix-Houphouët Boigny. But there is something important to point out 🤣 The animals living in this lake are not caimans at all — they are actually "Nile crocodiles." The lake was created in 1950, and according to local lore, it was in 1967 that the first crocodiles were gifted to the first President of Côte d'Ivoire by his counterpart from Mali, President Modibo Kéïta. As for the rest of the crocodiles, F.H.B acquired them himself from the Touba region. Some people therefore said that these crocodiles represented, above all, the political power of Félix Houphouët-Boigny.
