THE ROYAL COURT OF MOOSSOU

0 Review
Description

Home to the seat of the reigning King, His Majesty King Nanan Kanga Assoumou, this site is highly sought after by visitors to the village of Moossou. You have the opportunity to visit this Royal Court. During your visit, you will be able to admire bronze statues, the most famous of which is that of Queen Abla Pokou. The other statue is a representation of the Queen Mother N'Moh Vajo — and it is from her name that "Moossou" derives its name. As a matter of history, in the 17th century, following the devastating effects of the slave trade in Ghana, certain Akan peoples decided to migrate westward from Ghana (that is, toward Côte d'Ivoire). Legend has it that crows guided King Aka Ahoba in leading the Abouré people on their great journey (you will indeed spot representations of crows as you pass through the royal court). After their migration, the Abourés founded the villages of Dibi, Aboisso, Wessebo, and Ahabakro. The last of these cities was the capital of the Kingdom.
