THE SACRED MONKEYS OF GBETITAPEA

Watching monkeys roam freely throughout the village in perfect harmony with its residents is simply everyday life in the village of Gbétitapa. This village is located along the Daloa-Issia road. The monkeys of this village are said to be sacred, and for very good reason. According to local legend, the monkeys are the reincarnation of the ancestors of the village's inhabitants. In fact, you may even find the monkeys coming to "greet" people right at their doorstep. At every significant event, whether joyful or sorrowful, these monkeys display behaviors that serve as a warning to the local population.
