THE HUT AND STELE OF RENÉ CAILLÉ

Description

What Ivorian has never heard of René Caillé 😂. As a fun side note, when an Ivorian says that someone has "done a René Caillé," they mean that the person falsified their age by making themselves younger and producing forged documents.

This hut is the one where René Caillé, the famous explorer, stayed during his transit through the town of Tiémé. On his way to Tombouctou, he passed through Tiémé. Wounded and in need of care, he was met by a group of men under the palaver tree, who brought him to Mandjion Sylla, the village's most renowned healer. She nursed him back to health over the course of 5 months, and this hut was the very place where he was treated and cared for by her healing hands.
